The administrative team appreciates the understanding and confidence that was given to us during the lockdown at school today. Such actions are only taken when an immediate concern or threat has been issued. This morning the Scott County Sheriff’s Department alerted us to a situation that could have potentially been dangerous for our students, faculty and staff. At that time, we went under a complete hard lockdown. A hard lockdown includes locking all exterior doors, interior doors, barricading, turning off lights and remaining as silent as possible. As the Sheriff’s Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrived we continued to monitor classrooms and the remainder of the buildings.
As in any emergency, an immediate notification was sent out to the parents to inform you of the situation. Due to confidentiality we are sometimes unable to fully disclose all information. As we continued to receive information we moved to a soft lock down which enabled the students to change classes, use the restroom and go to lunch. When the Sheriff’s Department notified the District that the suspect had been apprehended, we lifted the lockdown and continued with a normal schedule.
Even though we feel that our procedures were very effective we are reaching out to you to help us reassure the students that safety will always be our number one priority. Tonight we ask that you talk with your children about today’s events and comfort them that the school faculty and staff will always take measures to ensure their safety. We have been trained extensively to react towards threats such as this. However, we as a staff will reflect and debrief to evaluate our performance and determine that our procedures meet the standards that we have set for ourselves.

Please see the letter (click here) sent out in the fall by Dr. Cogdill explaining our lunch program guidelines. Our new Life360 after school snack program is provided through a separate grant funded operation and we are very excited to be able to provide it!
Life 360 Community Services and the Scott County R IV School District have entered into a partnership that will provide a free daily “super snack” for all students, pre-k through senior, at the end of the day. This snack will meet the dietary guidelines set by the USDA.
We are hopeful that this program will begin during the week of January 6th. At the end of the day, students will receive their snack as they exit their classrooms. We are asking parents to help us to remind students that the snack is to be eaten at home and not on the buses. In addition, we are anticipating a huge need for used plastic sacks. If you have any available, please send them into your child’s office. This will certainly help us out.
We realize this is a huge endeavor and we will have to resolve problems as they arise. If you have any questions, please contact any of the four administrators.
